Hi Friends,
I had so much fun writing my first article for One Veil that I just had to come back for more. Last time, I discussed ways I elevated my look by trying different products and techniques. This time, I’m here to tell you all about a fabulous – and VERY Sister-Friendly – makeup company called Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, or OCC.
Sister Florence of Faith, from the Portland House, first tipped me off to OCC. She raved about their lip tars and piqued my interest when she said how versatile and lightweight they were – and how highly pigmented! Since I obviously took the Vow of Poverty, I chalked them up as something I’d try…eventually.
A few days later, Sister Candy Cide, Sister Sanka De Mayo and myself attended The Makeup Show LA as guests of our makeup artist friend David. I promised Sister Flo that I’d find the OCC booth so I can say hi on her behalf and check out their products up close. Little did I know we’d each be leaving the booth with a gift bag filled with pretty much every product they carry…as well as a full set of brushes. (Thank you Risa and team!)
I was able to try the products the other day for Sister Hanna Barberic’s Novice Project “Tom’s Angels” (a benefit for the Tom of Finland Foundation…she raised $3k! BLAM!). And Sisters, I am VERY impressed.
The Brushes
I’m a Michael’s kind of gurl when it comes to brushes (like I said: Vow of Poverty). I’m not used to using brushes so soft and luxurious…but that is exactly what I got with OCC’s brushes. They are soft like squirrel hair, but since this is a cruelty-free company, they are NOT! These soft brushes help to blend their powders beautifully. And that’s next!
The Loose Pigment
I grabbed one of the pigments that had a bronze look and decided to use that as the base for my makeup that day (I believe it was called “Flawed”). It had a beautiful iridescence and went on like butter (and blended flawlessly because of those brushes ::giggle::). They have every color you can imagine, too!
The Lip Tars
Like I teased earlier, I heard rave reviews of their Lip Tars. Just as I was told, they are indeed lightweight, versatile and highly pigmented. They are so highly pigmented in fact that you only need ONE DROP to do your entire lips. I’m not kidding: ONE DROP! What’s really cool is how you can mix colors to create your own custom look. I mixed a few different colors to create my look for the evening and I set it with gold glitter. I was so surprised at how light the tars were on my lips – a far cry from grease paint and powder that I used to wear. My lips held up ALL night as well!
So yeah…I’m totally converted. Reach out to OCC and tell them Sister Indica sent you and get your lives!
With Love, Light & A Spliff,
Sister Indica

Hi Friends,
Coming up with ideas is by far the hardest part of writing for One Veil. I paced around the convent, racking my brain for the right topic to discuss with you guys. You’ve got lives; I don’t want to waste your time – I want it to be good, you know?
Suddenly, it hit me: I had found a really cool product that I wanted to try, but haven’t yet. I usually don’t like to write about stuff I don’t know much about, but this is just too cool to keep to myself. I’m sure one of you will want to try it and when you do, let me know what you think – if I don’t beat you to it first!
It’s called Face Lace, created by artist Phyllis Cohen (who actually did makeup for DIVINE ::gay gasp::), and they are as simple as: peeling off, sticking on and showing OFF (as they put it). Made from vinyl, these masks and face details are durable and can be re-used (either with their own adhesive or from something like spirit gum, which nearly every Sister has on hand). The prices aren’t too wild either, so splurge! Buy yourself something nice – you’ve earned it!
Here are a few pics of some of what they have to offer (photos by Matthew Shave), but they have so much to choose from, I recommend checking out their website.
While they are a UK company, you can find their products all around the world so check them out, pick some up and tweet me a pic of you rocking your Face Lace!
With Love, Light – and a Spliff,
